Alice didn't want to wear her Santa hat because she was afraid that people might laugh at her. (Humiliation or embarrassment of any kind is a frequent source of anxiety for Alice) Instead she chose to wear her fuzzy purple hat, that some might be concerned is actually more laugh-worthy than a Santa hat. But instead a lady on the street actually complimented her hat in front of Macy's. Shows what her parents know about fashion.
I asked Alice on the train ride home if she had fun.
A: "No Mommy, no, it was terrible."
Me: "Really? You didn't have fun?"
A: "No! That baby hail hitting us was horrible!"
Ok, she's right, the hail part was pretty horrible. And I guess whatever happens last decides the verdict on the whole event.
