Rest in Peace, Gigi

Georgia Lee Welch Cason, 95, currently of Columbia, MO passed away January 1, 2010. Graveside services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, January 6th at Memorial Park Cemetery, 51st and Memorial. Georgia was born May 24, 1914 to Beulah Mae and Homer E. Abbott in St. Louis, MO. Native Oklahomans, the family moved back to Tulsa when she was a toddler and she lived in Tulsa for over 8 decades until failing health prompted her move to Columbia, MO. She attended Tulsa Public Schools and graduated from Tulsa Central High School in 1932. She attended the University of Oklahoma where she became a member of Delta Delta Delta.

In September 1935 she married Lee Welch. During her years in Tulsa, Georgia was an active member of the Tulsa Boys Home, the Tri Delta Alumna Association, the Oaks Country Club, the Gilcrease Museum Gillies, and the First Presbyterian Church. She enjoyed painting, golf, bridge, gardening, and travel and relished opportunities to entertain friends. She was known as an engaging and generous hostess. She was preceded in death by: her first husband, Lee Welch; and her second husband, Frank Cason whom she married in 1967.

Memorial contributions in her honor may be made to the Five Civilized Tribes Museum, 1101 Honor Heights Drive, Muskogee, OK 74401 or to the First Presbyterian Church, 709 S. Boston Avenue, Tulsa.
