Alice caught a fish!
Axl caught a fish
Sophia caught a fish (is there a trend here??)
All fish were kept for approximately one hour and named. Alice's fish, "Starfish". (and which Mom do you think was taking fish off the hooks and getting them into the buckets of water? yes, thank you very much...)
Noni led the fishing expedition. Isabelle's "Noni" also got to call Alice "Ali"
Alice, Sophie and Axl "fishing" later with big sticks. The following morning they tried fishing with toast! (limited success)
Where we stayed - Dalzell, IL
Cooking hot dogs - the laid back way
Enjoying the hot dog
The serenity does not express how LOUD the bullfrogs are at night!
And with all the rain, we actually slept in the back of the Mazda. If you ever want to be totally cool amongst the 5 year old set, take a Cinderella pillow case with you.
Alice's backpack with the nine stuffed animal "friends" that got to come on this adventure
Free driving lessons included
Nature crafts
On a more serious note, we had to take shelter when tornado sirens sounded. We were only 30 miles from Streator, IL, where several tornados touched down Saturday night and did serious damage. Thankfully we had a shelter to retreat into, and nothing worse than some driving horizontal rain.
The National Weather Service confirmed this morning that tornadoes touched down in Lostant, Streator, Dwight and Buckingham. A survey team is also looking into whether another tornado hit close to Elmwood, near Peoria.
This morning Streator Mayor Jimmie Lansford said 50 people reported minor injuries, including 17 who were taken to a local hospital; all had been treated an released by midday. He also said 30 buildings had "major structural damage."
"And 'major' may be completely gone," Lansford added.
