Another belated August post -
We "won" (bought?) a night at the Grand Geneva at a silent auction charity event last spring. So, no better time than end of summer to try and claim it. This prize also included tickets to The Dancing Horses theater, so we started there, with really no idea what to expect.
Alice, who has planned to be a veterinarian since the age of 3, happily feeding goats and donkeys, surrounded by furry creatures. We were SHOCKED, when a goat ran past Alice, knocked her to the ground, then fell into an apparent seizure on the ground itself. (You need to remember, Alice = 50 lbs, goat = 230 lbs) Then the petting zoo helper getting all excited about, "WOW! That is a fainting goat! I've never actually seen it do that! That's so cool!" No on saying, "How is your CHILD my crazy goat just knocked to the ground?" Absolutely unbelievable. Also unbelievable how calm Alice was about the whole thing, standing up and brushing herself off like nothing happened.
And Sam. Who still doesn't really trust animals too much. When I said, "Do you want some food to feed the animals?" Sam said, "Yes. You feed them for me Mommy."
Alice on a pony ride before the Dancing Horses performance. Can only recommend the Dancing Horses if you are given free tickets. Woman had a dream to create this show. Lach and I thought the dream was a bit looooong.
And then northward to the Wisconsin Dells - waterpark capital of the world. We stayed at the Wilderness Resort which was perfectly awesome for a family, and basically like Vegas for kids. The kids' room had bunk beds and was built on the interior hallway - no windows! Genius! Why don't all hotels and condos create a pitch black vault for children to sleep in?
A few pool photos just to prove that we were there. We did enough swimming in their 7 indoor / outdoor pools that Alice came home with Swimmer's Ear.
Onsite go-kart racing. Alice and I won both days. Rock on girls team!
Sam got tired of swimming one afternoon so he and Daddy built the uber Magna-Tile army fort back in the room.
And to break up all the swimming, we went for a hike one morning at Devil's Lake State Park. A friend asked if we went about 3 miles. Um, no. No way to cover that distance when you have to stop and look at the chipmunk, the fallen tree, the mushroom, the daddy long legs, the moss, the shadow, the leaves... you get the idea.
But we did hike up a trail, which resulted in some beautiful vistas.
I love this - do we look believable as outdoorsy folks?
